I work creatively, coming from a Humanistic approach, incorporating Person-Centred but specialising in Gestalt therapy. With this I work by thinking about you as a whole person including physical responses. I believe that body and mind are connected and that it is beneficial to work with both in the counselling room.
I have an interest in working with young people and have diverse experience. This ranges from supporting young people with conditions such as Autism, ADHD and Oppositional Defiance Disorder in an academic setting; providing emotional support in a mentor role within a school; and counselling, providing therapeutic support.
This experience has helped me to understand the pressures young people face in today’s society. Pressures from school, parents, peers, the environment we live in including social media.
I can offer a young person a chance to discuss things with somebody who isn’t connected to them and without judgement. This can help with feeling more comfortable and therefore able to engage with the work. This space can be somewhere they can try and make sense of things that may seem overwhelming.
I work with adults as well as young young people and have supported those who have been suffering from issues including anxiety, self-harm, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, low self-esteem, ADHD, life choices, emotional abuse, dissociation, family issues and bereavement.
I currently work in a community counselling agency as a therapist alongside my private practice. Here I provide counselling to those on a low income. Having previously worked in a corporate setting, I know what this is like and the challenges it can bring.
